Meet New Member/New Board Member - Allison Whitsett

Allison Whitsett

What is your favorite comfort food?   - Homemade Fried Chicken! And once I start eating it, I can’t stop. It’s horrifically addictive to me…

Who (living or dead) would you most like to have a chat with? – Both of my Grandmothers. They were strong, wonderful women in very unique and individual ways.

What are you reading? – I am kind of embarrassed to admit this, but…. Nothing. I am not a big reader. Never have been! A little “Fun Fact” about me I will share – I have read all of the Harry Potter books about 10 times a piece though. Seriously. I absolutely LOVED them!

What song do you most want to hear when working out? – Pink, Katy Perry, Usher, Justin Timberlake, etc. Definitely Pop Music.

Do you have any hobbies, what are they? – I love to Hike. I have 3 children so I very much enjoy playing make believe and watching made up plays. We spend a lot of time at the library (not getting books for me obviously…), watching movies, and just plain spending time together.

Do you have a favorite movie or, one that you absolutely hate?  - Movies are one of my favorite things on the planet. I have WAY too many favorites to name… As long as there is a ton of action and/or I am laughing hysterically – I am a very happy person! The most watched in our house are probably Star Trek (The new one. I am a closet Trekkie…), Anchor Man, and just about any Disney movies.

What brings joy to your day?  - My Children, my Family, and doing a job that I absolutely adore. I am very blessed.

What one thing would you like people to know about your business? - The greatest thing about The Wigwam is that each time I drive on to the property, it always feels like I am arriving at some lush, beautiful, secluded resort that you would never expect to be in the center of a small town like Litchfield Park. I hear that same thing from my clients all the time. It’s a truly unique, Arizona landmark, that has extraordinary charm you can’t find anywhere else in the valley.

10 Trends and What's Hot in 2013

The program at the Febuary NACE meeting was so popular we asked Amy Mancuso to write a guest blog post for us.  Many thanks to Amy, not only for the following - also for sharing your knowledge in such a fun way at the meeting!

Amy Mancuso

1. Bling is back!!  Yes, sparkle, sparkle everywhere and don't be shy about it.  Use it wherever and whenever . . . you can't go wrong.

2. Popcorn Bars.  No more candy bars, popcorn bars are the latest and greatest fun food station at events.  You can go formal or casual, but lots of different flavors are sure to please.  Savory, Sweet, Multi-flavored, etc.  This is going to be huge.

3. Chicken.  Yes, Chicken is king . . . no more short ribs.  According to my dear friend, Michael Stavros, Director of Sales & Marketing at M Culinary Concepts, Chicken dishes of all kind will take and replace more of the meat now being served at weddings and events.  And we're talking all kinds of chicken, but especially Heritage Chickens.

4. Smoke Flavoring.  Anything smoked is now considered hot and trendy from smoke meats, to smoke ice cream and everything else in-between.  You can't go wrong with smoked flavoring.

5. Wines.  Even thought the staples still hold their own (Chardonnay, Cabernet and Merlot), the newest up and coming wines will be Malbec, Moscato and Red Blends and the trendiest regions for wines is New Zealand, Argentina and Spain.  For Champagnes, it's definitely Pink.

6. Tito's Vodka.  If you are a vodka drinker, this IS the vodka to see and be seen with.  No substitutions.  If your local beverage hangout doesn't carry it, ask them to bring it in. They'll be happy you did.

7. Mens Formalwear.  Ruffles are back.  Yes you read that right, ruffles are back on men's formal shirts, together with the 60's inspired style of the skinny tuxedo pant and tight fitted shirt and coat.  Don't worry, the polyester powder blue tux has still yet to make a comeback.

8. Bridal.  Blush is trending very strongly right now in wedding dresses as well as very delicate beading on the gowns and veils.

9. Music.  All types of Jazz from French to Gypsy to Bossa Nova - all very hot right now so at your next event, play some of these styles and your guests will be dancing in the aisles.

10. Videography.  Motion capturing is the process of  recording the movement of objects or people and using that information to animate digital characters models in 2D or 3D computer animation.  It makes for an amazing video, so check with your local videographer to see if they are offering that as an option for your event video.
