President's Report

We are finally in the ending stretch of summer, and fall is approaching soon!  I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to some cooler weather.  Fall in Phoenix is a busy season, so hopefully you are well rested from summer and ready to conquer the upcoming season!

As summer winds to an end, we have a lot of great things brewing for rest of this year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone for the 6th Annual Project NACE: Creating Fashion for a Cause on September 28th. We are changing it up! Our fundraising committee has been working hard to create a fun event so we can successfully raise funds for our charity partners, Singleton Moms and Foundation of NACE.

Our Phoenix Board just did our annual retreat in Prescott and we are busy working on some great plans for 2018. If you are interested in joining our Phoenix Board next year, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to myself or Allison to hear about more details. We have a lot of good things in the works so stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for more information.

With love and gratitude,

Dawn Peterson, Phoenix NACE President

Member Spotlight: Francine Kades,CBA The Balloon People

Born and raised in South Africa, Francine came to the US when when she was 20 years old.  Her boyfriend used to send me balloons all the time and I love them!  After the big earthquake in LA, she moved to Arizona.   After being a paralegal for years, she decided to change careers and went to a franchise show and saw a balloon franchise.  Did not buy the franchise but did buy an afternoon’s worth of classes and a new balloon company was born!

Francine is a certified balloon artist. Not many people know about such a designation but you have to complete a course and then participate in a pretty stringent verbal, written and practical 4 hour exam to earn the title.

She has 2 wonderful children and had to take time off from balloons to be a mommy but after her divorce about 12 years ago,she suddenly found erself in a position where she was the sole breadwinner for her family, so she went back to balloons.  It has been a lovely journey; this business has helped her support and bring up her kids.  She is passionate about her balloon art and feels fortunate to be able to get up and do what she loves every day.

She loves educating people on balloons because most people think of balloons as 3 balloons on a string; but the industry has become pretty sophisticated with LED lit balloons, walls, exploding balloons, sculptures, and so much more!

In her quest to offer the best service she can, she continues her balloon education through conventions and workshops to get better and better!

"I aspire to always be on top of what’s cool, what’s happening and what will bring you the WOW factor.  I have very dedicated people that have worked with me for years and we have great energy together.  After 24 years in this business, I do not know it all and do learn new things every day.  I recently returned from Chicago where 34 of us inflated 43,000 balloons for Chicago Pride and had the best time ever!  My plan is to introduce parade balloons into the AZ market so if you know any corporate parade sponsors, I’d love to talk to them! "

Always available to chat, and give décor advice, ahe tries to always available to clients.  Most people know her for balloons, but she also does some event planningwith about 7-8 weddings and bar and bat mitzvahs a year,

"Balloons and décor are my passion." She says, "I love NACE and being a member of this group – I know that it has really enhanced my business!  Last year I had a big corporate event that came up - with 21 days in which to plan this mega event.  Most of the vendors that I hired were NACE members ? Everybody involved gave 110% to make this happen.  Amazing team work, amazing NACE community."
