President's Report

Presidents Report ~

Wow, this is my last newsletter as your President of the Phoenix Chapter of NACE.  The last two years have flown by, especially this year! It truly has been an honor and privilege serving as your 2016 & 2017 president.  The memories, the friendships and continued pursuit to propel our chapter forward together have been so much more than I ever could have imagined.

I have learned so much from each one of you.  The support and passion for NACE has been tremendous. A HUGE thank you to our 2016-2017 board for your commitment to NACE!  Each one of you was essential in making our chapter successful and reaching and exceeding our goals. I'm deeply grateful for your support these last two years. There are no limits to what active, committed members of NACE can do for each other and for the advancement of the catering and events industry. These positions are voluntary and while keeping up with their “real jobs” they have mastered and succeeded all the goals we have set for our chapter.

I'm so excited for our incoming 2018 board!  This new set of leadership will surely do great things together.  Under Allison Chapin’s direction as the new Phoenix NACE President, the sky is the limit!  She has been my right hand and probably doesn't realize how much I have leaned on her these past two years. She has become one my closest dearest friends and I know that the Board of Directors she has put into place for 2018 will work just as well together. We have a full board of talented individuals ready to get started and eager to continue growing and improving our chapter. Don't by any means think that I am going to disappear though! I will still be here in an advisory position as your Immediate Past President and am as committed to NACE as I have ever been. I cannot wait to see what the next chapter holds for Phoenix NACE!

I would also like to take a moment to express gratitude to every venue and caterer for their support in hosting our monthly meetings this year.  A huge thank you to those of you who donate services and/or products that make our events educational and enjoyable. And to you, our members and guests, thank you for your attendance and participation. The meetings would not be complete without you.

I wish all of you blessings and peace during this holiday season as 2017 comes to a close.  As we all work hard on creating memorable events for others this December, may we still be able to take time to sit back, recharge and connect with loved ones. May your champagne glass ever be full and your stocking filled with all your heart desires. I wish you all a blessed, safe, and memorable Holiday Season. See you all in 2018!

 With love and gratitude,

Dawn Peterson, Phoenix NACE President

October Meeting Notes

Legal Contracts aren't scary when you know what you need to do to protect yourself! We learned so much about writing contracts, some basic legal questions ( check with your lawyer just in case) and ways to make sure your contracts are ironclad.

Our Halloween theme was carried out by Y-Knot Party & Rentals with witch hat napkins, and lanterns and pumpkin rustic centerpieces. Jimmy Davenport of Starz Entertainment kept the eveing going with some fun tunes,

Food and Wine Pairing

The November evening in Chandler, AZ was a gorgeous one!  During cocktails guests were given a tour of part of the grounds and the lower level of the building. The story of Chateau de Vie taken from their website:

“The Chateau de Vie, originally Kyrene Mansion, was dreamed and constructed in 1984 by the visionary Phil Erickson, a framing contractor. The estate featured elegant stained glass, ornate wooden carvings, and stunning murals. Erickson and his wife ensured the property would withstand the test of time. After owning the property for some 15 years, the Ericksons decided to relocate. By 2010, the property had fallen into disrepair.

In 2011, Shelly and Nick Goodman became the proud owners of the architectural gem that is the Chateau. They have since been honored to restore the beauty of the exquisite estate to its former glory. Under Shelly's attentive supervision and eye for design, the home has blossomed into the magnificent private vacation rental it is today.”

Katherine Lileck Moreno announced that Phoenix NACE will be looking for a new charity for the years of 2018 and 2019. If you have a favorite charity that you think will partner well with our chapter, please contact Katherine or any member of the board.

Our outgoing President, as of January 2018, is Dawn Peterson. An amazing video tribute was offered along with a gift and lots of hugs!

NACE Holiday Mixer

Santa Greeted everyone at the NACE Holiday Mixer, courtesy of Karma Event Lighting who had a unique projected Santa that talked and fun 3D glasses that turned all of the holiday lights into Snowflakes!

Entering the ballroom, guests passed between 'candy cane' balloon columns and were creeted by a 'champagne girl' who had assorted  holiday candy stocking stuffers in the champagne glasses in lieu of the bubbly!

There was a Giant Connect 4 game, Skee ball, and giant pacman, plus a photobooth from Modern West Photobooth, the DJ stylings of  Jimmy Davenport from Starz Entertainment, ( yes, there was even dancing!)

Delicious street tacos, a Poke Station, and Buffalo sliders were followed by scrumptious petit fours and a dessert station.
