Hello Phoenix NACE!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful 2018 so far! This is my first President’s Report, and I am so excited about it! I am honored and privileged to serve as your Chapter President, and am even more proud to work alongside all of the other outstanding, inspiring, and tireless leaders who keep this organization at the top of its game day in and day out. Your 2018 Board of Directors is AMAZING, and we are all excited about making this year a year to remember.
It has always been very apparent to me that the National Association for Catering and Events is blessed with the most incredible leaders and event professionals in the nation. All across our industry, there are trends being set, and boundaries being pushed. For me personally, my path to this moment has definitely been paved by some of those remarkable leaders. Dawn Peterson and Amber Allen - You ladies inspire me to be and do better every day, and I am eternally grateful for your guidance and friendship.
Being a part of this NACE family is one of the greatest joys in my life, and over the next couple years, I am committed to share that joy with all of you! There are so many things to be excited for, and I can’t wait to be a part of all the fun!
Cheers to you all!

In January, we kicked off the beginning of our NACE year at the Clayton House. Centered in the heart of Scottsdale, this new and sleek venue, provided cocktails, light appetizers and dinner for the evening. Appetizers showcased items, such as, cauliflower soup-shots and grilled cheese crostini sandwiches. Dinner consisted of grilled vegetables, rice pilaf and chicken kabobs. The meal was topped off with a colorful dessert of fresh fruit, brownie bites, chocolate and white chocolate drizzled cream puffs.
Guest speaker, Security Consultant, Terry Bauer, reiterated the importance of security while preparing a successful event. A very special thanks to our vendors Clayton House, Fable Photo & Video, VOX DJs, Karma Lighting, PJ’s Florals, Southwick Linens, and Prim.
If you haven't yet, be sure to sign up for next month's NACE meeting---NAU Student Event: Culinary Cook Off.
Were you there? Lots of fun and wonderful pictures of members at NACE Clayton House

Laurie Southwick is a true linen professional. She has worked in the special event industry for over 20 years. Laurie and her husband, Barry, started Southwick Linens in June of 2008. It continues to grow as a family owned and operated business. Southwick Linens is also a Local Arizona only company, so they are able to focus on all things Arizona. With their exceptional customer service and quality product, they ensure every client is treated just like family!
Laurie has spoken at National Events like the ARA (American Rental Association), and been showcased on TV shows like Platinum Weddings, Four Weddings and various local TV segments. She has also served on and contributed to multiple boards and charities in the event industry including NACE and ILEA.
She believes there is something new to be learned with every event she is involved with and loves helping design events and passing on ideas so every event, regardless of budget, can be a great success!
She says "I have always had a love and eye for all things fabric. All through High School I made my own homecoming and prom dresses along with suits and other items. I even made my children their clothes while they were little! My dedication for the linen industry just fell into my life as a natural passion of mine. Through my 20+ years now in the linen rental industry, my passion continues to grow with every event completed. I am passionate about my brides who come in to our showroom because I feel it is my mission to educate every engaged couple, so they get THEIR perfect wedding. 99% of the couples I meet with have never even planned an event for 5 people let alone 150 so I talk with them about a lot of different things. Even things that have nothing to do with renting linens. I love engaged couples!
